Android Devices:
Parents can have a few options for the Snapchat App:
- Block Completely: From Boomerang's Parent Mode, you can go to "Manage Apps" and block Snapchat.
Note: You can then delete Snapchat from the device and if it ever comes back, it will still be blocked. - Use our New App Approvals feature which will block all New Apps until you look at them, learn about what they are all about and then decide to approve or keep them blocked.
- Schedule "Supervised" Snapchat. From the Boomerang Web Management Dashboard, you can schedule when Snapchat will work (ex: Saturday from 5pm to 7pm) and be present with your child when they are using Snapchat.
Apple Devices:
Parents must set Boomerang's Age Restriction to 9+. This is since Apple's Age Rating system is used to block Apps on iPhones, iPods and iPads.
Knowledge: Boomerang gives you an Application Inventory so will let you know what Apps are currently installed on your child device. So you will know if Snapchat is installed. Plus, Apps that are installed and uninstalled are also part of the Boomerang Emailed Report that is sent daily.
Note: It does seem odd that Apple's rating is for 12+ when in fact Snapchat Terms of Service under “Who Can Use the Services” it says, “You can form a binding contract with Snapchat if you are 18 —meaning that if you’re between 13 and 17, your parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms;” OK - that is not happening in reality.
