From Galaxy Store
This version is exclusive for Samsung smartphones and tablets. This version includes all of our key features plus our calls and text safety features and additional app protection against tampering. You can update via the Galaxy Store.
- Open the Galaxy Store app
- Tap Menu > Updates.
- Tap on Update beside Boomerang Parental Control.
From Google Play
Used primarily for Parent devices and Android tablet devices. Parents that have kids with smartphones and want to monitor calls and text messages need to use the version from our Website (steps below).
On a child device, the version on Google Play will not automatically update as Boomerang Parental Control is a background service. The user (child or parent) needs to manually force Boomerang Parental Control to update via the Google Play app. Follow these steps:
- Open Google Play
- Tap Menu > My apps & games.
- Tap on Update beside Boomerang Parental Control.
From our Website
The version available on our website is for parents looking to have our Call and Text Message safety features on non-Samsung devices (Google no longer allows our app to offer these features on Google Play). The easiest way to update your child's device is to follow the steps here:
- From your child's device, open the Boomerang Parental Control app
- Tap the three dots in top right > About > Version xx.xx-unchained (or it could be Version xx.xx-gp).
- This will open our Download page on our website
- Scroll download to the pink Download badge
- Tap Download
- Accept the warnings and the app will update
Important Sideloading Notes
- If you downloaded via our website download page (what is called sideloading), please note devices with Android 14 (and higher) now force an additional security step for apps with the Accessibility Permission:
-
New app installs: during Boomerang onboarding you will not be able to toggle on the Accessibility permission but will be informed about enabling additional security (unlike the message, Boomerang Parental Control is not harmful!).
- Navigate to Android Settings > Apps > Boomerang > tap three dots in top right to toggle Allow Restricted Settings. Return to Boomerang and resume the app's setup including enabling the Accessibility permission.
- Update installs: we recommend disabling app protection prior to updating Boomerang from our website. This will allow you to follow the steps above to re-enable the Accessibility Permission service.
-
New app installs: during Boomerang onboarding you will not be able to toggle on the Accessibility permission but will be informed about enabling additional security (unlike the message, Boomerang Parental Control is not harmful!).
