Troubleshooting Call Settings and Features

The following information is helpful to understand the logic behind how our call management features function on Android child devices. 

The calls features can be managed via our web dashboard or via our Parent Mode available for Android and iOS parent devices. 

Always Allowed numbers

Parents can add phone numbers to their child's Always Allowed list during onboarding or later through the web dashboard or Parent Mode. Once added, these numbers appear alongside Always Allowed apps in a unified list.

Children can call and receive calls from these approved numbers through their device's phone app or the Boomerang app's Dashboard. These calls remain accessible even when daily screen time limits have been reached, ensuring children stay connected with trusted contacts regardless of other restrictions.

Call Policy options

Allow calls from local address book only (enabled by default): Allows your child to make and receive calls to/from any phone number saved in their device's Contacts app. 

Note: New phone numbers added to your child's Contacts app may take a few minutes to sync with Boomerang. If calls aren't working as expected, restart your child's device to force an immediate sync. 

Block phone calls when time runs out: Blocks calls to/from Contacts when daily screen time limits are reached. Numbers on your child's Always Allowed list will remain accessible. 

Tip: To ensure your child can always reach you, add your phone number to their Always Allowed list.

Call Options

Call options work independently—you can either allow or block specific numbers, but not both simultaneously for the same contact.

A common setup is to enable "Allow calls from local address book only" while also maintaining a Block list under Call Options. This lets your child call most saved contacts while still blocking specific numbers you've added to the Block list.

Block calls to/from the following numbers: Blocks calls to/from any phone number added to this list. Incoming calls will be forwarded to voicemail.

Allow calls to/from the following numbers: Allows your child to make and receive calls to/from any phone number added to this list.

Call Logs

Call logs can be reviewed via our web dashboard or via our Usage Reports with our Parent Mode in the Boomerang Parental app available for Android and iOS parent devices.
