To ensure your family rules and screen time limits remain active, Boomerang includes built-in uninstall protection features. Preventing your child from removing Boomerang takes a few quick steps on both your child’s device and via your Parent Mode settings.
Set a Child Mode Security PIN
To prevent your child from accessing settings or attempting to remove the app directly on their device, set up a secure PIN code.
The PIN code is an extra layer on top of your group password used to pair additional child devices and log in to our web dashboard.
During Onboarding: When setting up Boomerang in Child Mode for the first time, you will be prompted to create a group password / PIN code.
-
After Onboarding:
Open the Boomerang app on your child’s device.
Tap Settings > Advanced Settings (this area is protected by your group password).
Set a Child Mode PIN or update your Child Mode PIN.
Enable Additional Uninstall Prevention (Parent App)
We strongly recommend enabling Additional Uninstall Prevention from the Parent app on iOS or Android to add an extra layer of tamper protection.
Note for Best Performance: Uninstall protection works most effectively when the Child Mode app is installed via the Samsung Galaxy Store or downloaded directly as a Sideloaded APK from useboomerang.com/download.
From Parent Mode (iOS & Android)
If not currently enabled, Parent Mode will prompt you to Enable Prevent Uninstallation > tap Enable.
Open the Boomerang app on your parent phone.
Tap Manage on your child’s device from the main screen.
Tap the Three Dots (⋮) menu icon in the top-right corner.
Select Advanced Device Settings.
Toggle ON the Prevent App Uninstallation.
Enable Uninstall Prevention via the Web Dashboard
If you prefer to manage settings from a browser, you can enforce uninstall protection remotely via the Boomerang Web Dashboard.
Navigate to https://app.useboomerang.com/My and log in with your group email/password.
Click on your child's profile to open the various tabs.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Under Security Features > check Require Password for Uninstallation.
